Butler Mountain Bald Newsletter

Butler Mountain Bald Inc will be hosting it’s annual meeting via Zoom on Saturday January 13, 2024. at 11:00 AM. The Zoom link will be emailed earlier that morning.

We will be hosting volunteer workdays on the 4th weekend of January, February, March and April. Wintertime is when we get the Bald ready for the next growing season by choosing which areas to cut and which areas to leave for habitat diversity.

Sometime in late March we’ll schedule a “bush-hog” day to mow down this year’s cut areas. Every winter apple trees need “bear damage” pruning and there are a few Virginia pines that could be taken down. Trail maintenance is ongoing and invasive plant removal is never-ending. With the grace of good weather, our volunteer workdays will be a good time to commune and work with neighbors on the mountaintop.

Ben Gilbert’s 3-year term on the BMB board is coming to an end, but he has expressed interest in staying on the board from another term. The Butler Mountain Board has one representative from each of the three neighborhoods behind the BME gate, on a 3-year rotation. The current board is:

BMH: Sparrel Wood 828-768-8005 (term expires January 2026)

BME: Ben Gilbert 919-358-0555 (term expires January 2024)

BME-3: Benjamin Dimmitt 212-595-1816 (term expires January 2025)
