A Trashy Situation

Many people in the Highlands use the current Buncombe County designated trash service, WastePro. Their service to our neighborhood has always been marginal, and recently, they’ve missed three weekly pickups in a row. When called, they said they didn’t have a resource available and suggested just taking our trash to the transfer station.

This is likely because, as of 12/31/2024, they had lost the Buncombe County contract (in part, because of low customer satisfaction) and will be replaced by FCC Environmental Services. As expected, the new service has increased prices for service and ancillary fees (e.g., special bear-resistant cans). The county has an info and signup page for the new provider.

If you want to use the new provider, please sign up before December 15.
